We are very proud to announce that two-time ILM Legacy Officer of the Year, Naomi Orrey is joining the Legacy Link team in February 2018, following a successful time at the Blue Cross.
Here, Naomi introduces herself and why she is excited to be using her knowledge and experience to support a wide range of charities with Legacy Link, and make a positive difference to the causes they support:
I’m never quite sure how far into January you can continue to greet people with a “Happy New Year!”, but as this is my first opportunity to introduce myself to you all as the latest Consultant to join the Legacy Link team, I’ll begin by offering my good wishes to you all for the year ahead.
2018 is set to be a year of change for me as I move into the consultancy world. Such change usually brings me a feeling of excitement, an extra load of enthusiasm, and a bit of a scary feeling too. That was certainly the case when I said goodbye to working in law firms and stepped into what felt at the time, the strange new world of legacy administration. My previous experience was supporting lawyers in a variety of different legal teams, as well as being responsible for their marketing events. That mix has been a great foundation for me in entering the world of legacies where together marketing and administration provide a trustworthy, professional and compassionate service for individuals wishing to make a difference with their gift to charity.
The spirit of collaboration is something that stood out for me when I entered this sector and it’s what keeps me passionate about the important role we play in honouring the wishes of legacy givers.
I’ve learnt so much in the fifteen years since becoming a legacy administrator and fundraiser, I’m excited about sharing that knowledge and experience with the charities I’ll be supporting. I also have no doubt that I will continue to learn from all those I meet at those charities. The spirit of collaboration is something that stood out for me when I entered this sector and it’s what keeps me passionate about the important role we play in honouring the wishes of legacy givers. We share knowledge, ideas and, when needed, the costs of getting expert advice. I have been so inspired by the variety of skills, expertise and approaches of my colleagues over the years and have always found that the desire to reach out and communicate is what has enabled me to learn the most.
Relationships make up such a big part of legacy administration and fundraising work; relationships with donors, their families, their professional advisors, our fellow legacy officers, fundraising colleagues and those on the front line of our charities’ services who inspire so much generosity. Running through those relationships is compassion, professionalism, empathy and, underlying it all, integrity – it is these values that I aim to live by and look forward to sharing with you as a Legacy Link Consultant.
