Legacy Link Consultant Brad Greis has successfully gained £67,000 plus interest for three charities including The Royal British Legion. The long-running case involved assets in Ireland, England and Wales. Towards the end of the estate administration, the Legion received Estate Accounts from the estate solicitors in Ireland that included a large IHT bill; however, he realised that as two-thirds of residue was exempt, no IHT should have been paid.
Brad took up the error with the Irish firm and then the firm working on the England and Wales estate, chasing them several times for a response. In late October, he heard that HMRC is to refund the tax paid, adding interest. It represents a little over £22,000 for each charity.
